Camtek (NASDAQ:CAMT), a leading manufacturer of metrology and inspection equipment for the semiconductor industry, announced on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Visual Layer, a Tel Aviv-based artificial intelligence company specializing in visual analytics.
The acquisition is intended to deepen Camtek’s technological lead in the increasingly competitive market for high-end wafer inspection.
The deal follows more than a year of research and development collaboration between the two firms.
Visual Layer, founded by AI researchers Dr. Danny Bickson and Dr. Amir Alush, provides a proprietary platform designed to process and analyze massive-scale visual data.
By integrating this technology directly into its hardware, Camtek aims to deliver immediate improvements in system throughput and detection accuracy for advanced packaging and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) manufacturing.
The strategic rationale for the acquisition extends beyond performance tweaks.
Camtek management highlighted the potential to develop a new tier of AI-driven software and analytics products.
These offerings could transition a portion of Camtek’s business model toward recurring software revenue, a shift that has become a priority for industrial equipment providers seeking to provide "beyond-the-box" value to global chipmakers and outsourced assembly and test (OSAT) providers.
While financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, Camtek indicated that the deal is expected to close within the next few weeks, subject to customary closing conditions.
