BriaCell advances Bria-MEL+ vaccine program

BriaCell (NASDAQ:BCTX) announced that Bria-MEL+ has passed a key genetic engineering milestone, moving the personalized whole-cell melanoma immunotherapy vaccine candidate toward potential clinical development.

The vaccine candidate uses genetically modified cell lines designed to stimulate a patient’s immune system against melanoma while using HLA matching to select a compatible premanufactured cell line.

BriaCell stated that Bria-MEL+ uses a saliva-based HLA matching test to identify suitable patients and is designed to avoid individualized manufacturing, while development activities have started to support potential clinical production.

BriaCell stated that the milestone supports continued preparation for potential clinical evaluation.

The Bria-MEL+ program builds on the company’s Bria-OTS+ platform and complements other pipeline programs, including Bria-IMT in a Phase 3 metastatic breast cancer trial, Bria-OTS in breast cancer, and Bria-PROS+ in prostate cancer.

BriaCell develops immunotherapies for cancer treatment, with its pipeline focused on cell-based vaccine approaches designed to activate immune responses against different tumor types.
