Boeing (NYSE:BA) secured a significant commitment from Ethiopian Airlines Group for 20 aircraft, as Africa's largest carrier moves to modernize its fleet and broaden its reach across four continents.

The deal, announced Tuesday, includes a new order for nine 787-9 Dreamliners and the finalized purchase of 11 additional 737 MAX 8 jets.

The Dreamliners are slated for delivery between 2031 and 2033, providing the Addis Ababa-based airline with the long-haul capacity needed to grow its network of 145 international destinations.

The 787 family, a cornerstone of Ethiopian's intercontinental operations, offers a 25% reduction in fuel use and emissions compared to the older aircraft it replaces.

The announcement reinforces Boeing's dominant position in the African aviation market, where Ethiopian Airlines already operates the continent's largest 787 fleet.
