BMO adjusted profit climbs to $2.9 billion, up 19%

BMO Financial Group (NYSE:BMO) reported third-quarter 2026 net income of $1.75 billion, down 25% year over year, while adjusted net income increased 19% to $2.859 billion after excluding a goodwill-related charge.

The company’s reported earnings were affected by a $962 million after-tax charge related to the announced sale of its Transportation and Vendor Finance businesses, while adjusted EPS increased 22% to $3.96 from the prior-year period.

BMO reported earnings per share of $2.38, reported return on equity of 8.4%, and adjusted return on equity of 14%, while provisions for credit losses declined to $722 million from $797 million.

The bank’s Common Equity Tier 1 capital ratio was 13%, and BMO declared a fourth-quarter 2026 dividend of $1.71 per common share while repurchasing 3.8 million shares during the quarter.

BMO stated that it intends to establish a new normal course issuer bid (NCIB) for up to 25 million shares, subject to regulatory and exchange approvals.
