Babcock & Wilcox secures $40M contract for wet gas scrubbing technology
Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) (NYSE:BW) announced today that it has been awarded a $40 million contract to supply its advanced low-pressure Wet Gas Scrubbing (WGS) technology for installation at a major petroleum refinery in Canada.
This follows an initial $10 million order for the same project, announced in September, bringing the total commitment to $40 million.
The contract marks a significant milestone for Babcock & Wilcox as it continues to grow its environmental solutions business in North America.
B&W’s WGS technology is designed to control sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions from fluid catalytic cracking and fluid coker units, helping refiners comply with stringent environmental regulations.
In addition to sulfur dioxide control, the technology can be enhanced to address nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) and particulate emissions, providing a comprehensive approach to environmental compliance.
As a licensee of ExxonMobil’s WGS technology, Babcock & Wilcox has successfully deployed its WGS systems in numerous refinery applications worldwide.
The company’s technology offers several key advantages, including high SO₂ removal efficiency with low-pressure operation for reduced energy consumption, customizable designs for challenging site layouts, and the ability to integrate with NOₓ and particulate control technologies for complete emissions management.
