Artiva Biotherapeutics reports positive AlloNK data and FDA RMAT designation
Artiva Biotherapeutics (NASDAQ:ARTV) has shared encouraging clinical findings for its lead therapeutic candidate, AlloNK® (AB-101), during the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) 2026 congress.
The data, presented across five different sessions, highlights the potential of this allogeneic, off-the-shelf natural killer (NK) cell therapy to treat refractory autoimmune conditions.
In the company-sponsored Phase 2a basket trial, patients with refractory rheumatoid arthritis (RA)—who had previously failed multiple biologic or targeted synthetic therapies—showed significant improvement.
Among patients with at least six months of follow-up, 71% achieved an ACR50 response, a standard measure of disease activity reduction.
Translational data consistently demonstrated deep B-cell depletion across patient cohorts, a hallmark of the therapy's mechanism designed to facilitate an immune system "reset."
Importantly, the treatment regimen showed a favorable safety and tolerability profile, with no reported cases of cytokine release syndrome (CRS) or immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS).
These characteristics suggest that AlloNK could be administered in outpatient community rheumatology settings, offering a significant advantage over more complex, hospital-intensive cellular therapies.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted RMAT designation to the combination of AlloNK and rituximab for the treatment of refractory rheumatoid arthritis.
This designation is intended to expedite the development and review of promising therapies for serious conditions.
Artiva has also reached alignment with the FDA on the design of a single registrational Phase 3 trial.
The randomized, controlled study is expected to enroll approximately 150 patients with refractory RA.
The trial will compare AlloNK plus rituximab against rituximab alone, with an ACR50 response at six months serving as the primary efficacy endpoint.
Artiva plans to initiate this Phase 3 trial in the second half of 2026.
Beyond rheumatoid arthritis, preliminary data from the company's basket trials in Sjögren’s disease (SjD) and systemic sclerosis (SSc) have shown early efficacy signals consistent with the RA results.
