Artelo Biosciences (NASDAQ:ARTL) reported nonclinical study results showing its ART27.13 compound produced approximately 20% body-weight loss over four weeks in obese mice, similar to semaglutide monotherapy.
The study found that combining ART27.13 with semaglutide resulted in about 40% weight loss in a diet-induced obesity model, approximately twice the reduction observed with either treatment alone.
Artelo said about 80% of weight loss from ART27.13 treatment and combination therapy was from fat reduction, while semaglutide alone produced about 70% fat loss, with lean mass and body composition measures normalized toward lean controls.
Artelo said ART27.13 maintained reduced body weight even after food intake returned toward normal levels and showed favorable metabolic markers, including effects on liver hypertrophy, cholesterol, and glucose handling.
Artelo Biosciences develops therapies targeting the endocannabinoid system, including ART27.13, a peripherally acting dual CB1/CB2 agonist.
The company is studying ART27.13 for potential applications involving metabolic regulation and other disease areas.
