Anthropic confidentially files for IPO following trillion-dollar valuation milestone
Artificial intelligence researcher and developer Anthropic announced Monday that it has taken its first official step toward public capital markets, submitting confidential draft paperwork to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an initial public offering (IPO).
The strategic move positions the company to beat its primary market rival, ChatGPT developer OpenAI, to a traditional Wall Street debut.
The San Francisco-based firm stated that the exact number of common shares to be offered and the target price range for the potential listing have not yet been determined.
“This gives us the option to go public after the SEC completes its review,” Anthropic said in an official statement.
“The proposed initial public offering will depend on market conditions and other factors.”
The confidential filing arrives just days after Anthropic announced a historic $65 billion Series H funding round.
The private cash injection propelled the company's post-money valuation to approximately $965 billion, positioning it on the cusp of the trillion-dollar market cap milestone.
The latest valuation adjustment successfully pushes Anthropic past OpenAI in total paper value.
OpenAI was most recently valued at approximately $852 billion during an internal secondary market transaction and employee tender offer concluded in March.
