Anavex advances blarcamesine clinical programs

Anavex Life Sciences (NASDAQ:AVXL) reported third fiscal quarter 2026 results and provided updates on blarcamesine development programs targeting Alzheimer’s disease, Rett syndrome, and Fragile X syndrome.
The company submitted completed Alzheimer’s disease clinical trial data to its newly opened U.S. Alzheimer’s investigational new drug application and is using regulatory feedback to prepare a planned Phase 3 trial.
“Foundational ADME and DDI clinical pharmacology studies under the IND are underway,” said Anavex Life Sciences.
Anavex is conducting additional clinical pharmacology studies under its Alzheimer’s IND, including a drug-drug interaction study with the last patient visit expected by the end of September 2026, while planning the ANAVEX2-73-AD-005 Phase 3 trial.
The company is initiating an adult Phase 3 Rett syndrome trial, ANAVEX2-73-RS-005, expected to include about 170 participants, and is seeking regulatory alignment to include pediatric patients.
Anavex reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 net income of $7.8 million, or $0.08 per share, compared with a net loss of $13.2 million a year earlier, while cash and equivalents totaled $118.3 million as of June 30, 2026.
The company stated that its cash position is expected to fund operations into mid to late fiscal 2028 and that it plans to submit a Fragile X syndrome IND application in September 2026.
