AN2 Therapeutics reports positive efficacy data for Chagas disease candidate
AN2 Therapeutics (NASDAQ:ANTX) announced positive data today from two separate studies evaluating its investigational oral CPSF3 inhibitor, AN2-502998, for the treatment of chronic Chagas disease—a parasitic condition caused by Trypanosoma cruzi that affects millions globally.
In a study involving non-human primates (NHPs) with naturally acquired, chronic T. cruzi infections, a 28-day treatment regimen with AN2-502998 resulted in 100% parasitic elimination.
The study maintained this efficacy for four months following the conclusion of treatment, with the drug reaching target exposure levels considered attainable in human clinical settings.
These findings are complemented by data from the company's Phase 1 first-in-human (FIH) study.
In that assessment, AN2-502998 was generally well-tolerated at exposure levels consistent with those that demonstrated efficacy in the NHP models, and investigators reported no dose-limiting toxicities.
AN2 Therapeutics is developing the candidate using its proprietary boron chemistry platform, which focuses on creating novel small-molecule inhibitors.
Chagas disease remains a significant global health challenge with limited treatment options, particularly in its chronic stage, where the parasite remains difficult to eradicate.
The company plans to use these data to support the further clinical advancement of AN2-502998.
