Zano restarts blockchain after Gateway exploit
- Zano restarted its blockchain at block 3,833,000 after a Gateway Address vulnerability.
- The rollback removed roughly one month of blockchain history and unauthorised ZANO and fUSD.
- The recovery requires nodes, miners, stakers, exchanges and services to adopt the update.
Zano (ZANO) has restarted its blockchain at block 3,833,000 after a Gateway Address vulnerability enabled unauthorised tokens.
The restart occurred immediately before Hard Fork 6, removing roughly one month of blockchain history.
“Doing nothing meant unauthorized ZANO and fUSD in circulation without limit, diluting every holder,” Zano Head of Marketing and Growth Quinten van Welzen said in statement.
The vulnerability allowed unauthorised ZANO and Freedom Dollar (fUSD) to enter circulation through Gateway Addresses.
The recovery invalidates transactions confirmed during the affected period, requiring users to verify their final status.
Gateway Addresses were designed to simplify integrations for bridges, exchanges and payment services using account-style balances.
Zano said wallet keys remained secure and ordinary transaction privacy was unaffected, while reimbursement plans remain under development.
Following the update, ZANO was trading at $6.34.
