WTW acquires Redefind for crypto recovery

Share

Global insurance broker and risk advisory firm WTW has acquired crypto insurance platform Redefind and launched a digital asset protection service aimed at helping clients recover stolen or lost cryptocurrency.

The new service covers costs associated with forensic investigations, blockchain asset tracing and legal recovery efforts, focusing on recovery support rather than traditional custodial insurance coverage.

Redefind allows individuals and institutions to insure digital assets held across different custody arrangements and uses cryptographic proof of ownership to verify insured holdings.

The product is designed as a non-custodial insurance solution and will initially launch in the United Kingdom, with plans for broader international expansion.

Redefind founders Richard Daws and Connor Edward have joined Willis, WTW's broking division, following completion of the acquisition.

WTW said the transaction supports its strategy of expanding services for clients involved in digital finance, cryptocurrency markets and tokenised assets, though financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition comes as insurers increasingly explore crypto-related products, including Bitcoin-linked annuities, cryptocurrency payment systems, blockchain-based settlement networks and digital asset-backed insurance businesses.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $66,788.19.
