World has open-sourced ProveKit, a toolkit that lets users prove identity claims without sharing personal data.
The toolkit is already used by World ID and is now available to outside developers.
“We are now launching ProveKit open source because we believe this technology is key for privacy-preserving authentication and must be neutral and permissionless,” said a World Foundation spokesperson.
ProveKit can prove claims about age, nationality or valid ID ownership without revealing the underlying data.
World said ProveKit can create proofs in seconds on typical phones and under 30 seconds on a tested low-end device, while World is privately held.
ProveKit has been in development for about two years and supports Noir, a programming language for zero-knowledge applications.
World is also developing ProveKit v2, which is expected to reduce proof size and improve blockchain checks.
