A White House official has accused Chinese artificial intelligence company Moonshot AI of using Anthropic's Fable model to develop its K3 large language model.
Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, said the United States had information suggesting Moonshot AI carried out large-scale model distillation to build K3.
“We have information that Moonshot AI distilled Anthropic’s Fable for the development of its K3 model,” said White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios.
Kratsios also alleged Moonshot AI developed an internal platform that allowed it to conduct large-scale distillation while avoiding detection.
The allegations have intensified scrutiny of artificial intelligence development and intellectual property as competition between the United States and China continues.
Moonshot AI had not publicly responded to the allegations, and no legal action had been announced at the time of reporting.
