Vitalik Buterin sells $6M in ETH
Vitalik Buterin has sold more than 3,100 Ethereum tokens worth over $6.1 million in recent days, continuing a pattern of ETH disposals as the asset trades near multi-week lows.
On-chain data from Arkham Intelligence shows wallets attributed to Buterin swapping ETH for stablecoins via decentralised exchange CoW Swap, reducing his on-chain holdings to roughly 224,000 ETH valued at about $426 million.
Buterin previously indicated he would offload approximately $44.7 million in ETH to support Ethereum Foundation initiatives during what he described as a period of “mild austerity” aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability.
He said the tighter spending approach would “ensure the Ethereum Foundation's own ability to sustain into the long term, and protect Ethereum's core mission and goals.”
The latest sales coincide with continued price weakness, with ETH down around 4% in the past 24 hours to roughly $1,872 after briefly touching $1,855, leaving it more than 36% lower over the past month.
At current levels, Ethereum remains about 62% below its August all-time high of $4,946, as broader crypto market volatility persists.
Beyond treasury considerations, Buterin has recently called for adjustments to Ethereum’s roadmap, including a renewed focus on mainnet scaling dynamics and censorship-resistant upgrades, signalling ongoing strategic recalibration amid market pressure.
At the time of reporting, Ethereum price was $1,824.47.
