  • Venice AI raised US$65 million in its first external funding round, reaching a US$1 billion valuation.
  • The funding was led by Dragonfly with participation from Coinbase Ventures, F-Prime, North Island Ventures and Morgan Creek.
  • The company said it will use the capital to expand infrastructure, grow its customer base and enter new markets.

Venice AI raised US$65 million in a Series A funding round led by Dragonfly, valuing the company at US$1 billion as demand for privacy-focused artificial intelligence services grows.

The funding marks the company's first external capital raise since launching in May 2024 and comes amid increased scrutiny of how major AI providers collect and use customer data.

“This capital will be used to uphold the First and Fourth Amendments to the Constitution as they relate to mankind’s interaction with AI,” said Venice AI founder Erik Voorhees.

The company said it will use the funding to build its own GPU-powered data centre infrastructure, expand into new markets, hire staff and pursue acquisitions, while Dragonfly managing partner Haseeb Qureshi said privacy will become increasingly important as AI adoption expands.

Venice AI says it serves 3.5 million users and provides access to more than 200 AI models through a privacy layer that obscures user information, and following the announcement the company does not have a publicly traded share price because it remains privately held.

The funding follows reports that Anthropic restricted foreign access to two AI models and comes weeks after OpenAI was named in a proposed class-action lawsuit alleging ChatGPT user data was shared with third parties.

Privacy concerns have also prompted wider industry discussion, with Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Ethereum Foundation AI lead Davide Crapis previously proposing privacy-preserving techniques for AI systems, including the use of zero-knowledge proofs.

At the time of reporting, Ethereum price was $1,628.79.
