UK agency freezes $13.5M in Sorare probe

The UK National Crime Agency froze £10 million, worth about $13.5 million, during an investigation into Sorare.

The funds were frozen under a January 2025 Westminster Magistrates’ Court order linked to the probe.

The investigation concerns allegations that Sorare offered unlicensed gambling services, which the company disputes.

An NCA spokesperson said the order aimed “to prevent dissipation of the funds” while investigators examined potential links to alleged third-party criminality.

Sorare signed a four-year, $162 million partnership with the Premier League in 2023, which ended after last season.

The UK Financial Conduct Authority warned Premier League clubs in June about questionable sponsorship deals involving unauthorised financial firms.

The case adds regulatory pressure to crypto-sports partnerships, while authorities investigate whether digital asset firms meet UK financial and gambling rules.
