Trump urges Senate to pass CLARITY Act
- President Donald Trump urged the Senate to pass the CLARITY Act.
- Republicans now have a smaller Senate majority after Senator Lindsey Graham's death.
- Democrats continue seeking stronger rules on conflicts of interest in crypto.
US President Donald Trump urged the Senate to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act after Senator Lindsey Graham died on Saturday.
Trump said lawmakers should pass the bill in Graham's honour, calling him a supporter of the legislation.
“Lindsey was a big supporter of the CLARITY Act,” Trump said on Truth Social.
The bill would move much of crypto regulation from the US Securities and Exchange Commission to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Republicans now hold a 51-47 Senate majority, making Democratic support more important to reach the 60 votes needed to pass the bill.
Several Senate Democrats said they will not support the bill unless it includes stronger conflict-of-interest rules linked to public officials and the crypto industry.
The Senate has four weeks before its August recess to decide whether to advance the CLARITY Act.
