Thai immigration police have arrested a 37-year-old Chinese man over alleged links to a money-laundering network.

Investigators allege the network moved more than 500 million yuan through cryptocurrency transactions and foreign-currency exchanges.

Authorities allege the suspect recruited people to open bank accounts and collected their bank cards and account information.

Investigators also allege he arranged visas for people connected to transnational criminal groups.

Police tracked the suspect to Bangkok and arrested him on October 16, according to published reports.

Chinese authorities reportedly sought the man over alleged involvement in a loan-shark gang and money laundering.

Thai immigration checks found his permission to remain in the country had expired about three years and eight months earlier.

Thai authorities will handle the case under local law before proceeding with the suspect’s deportation to China.
