Swiss Bitcoin Pay has temporarily shut its servers after detecting likely unauthorised access to its internal systems.

The Swiss Bitcoin payment processor believes customer emails, Bitcoin addresses, IBANs, transaction history and hashed passwords may have been accessed.

“A malicious user has likely gained access to Swiss Bitcoin Pay’s internal systems,” Swiss Bitcoin Pay said in a post on X.

Swiss Bitcoin Pay has taken its servers offline while it investigates the incident and secures its infrastructure.

The company has not confirmed how many customers may have been affected or when its services will resume.

Swiss Bitcoin Pay says customer funds remain safe and any amounts owed to users will be returned in full.

The incident adds to several recent data breaches affecting crypto firms, highlighting the security risks around customer information even when funds remain outside company custody.
