  • StarkWare released a three-phase roadmap to make Starknet resistant to future quantum computing threats.
  • The company said existing post-quantum cryptography is available and urged the blockchain industry to accelerate adoption.
  • The roadmap combines Starknet upgrades with future Ethereum changes needed to complete the transition.

StarkWare unveiled a three-phase roadmap to make Starknet resistant to future quantum computing attacks, arguing that existing post-quantum cryptography can protect blockchain networks if implemented.

The announcement comes as researchers warn that cryptographically relevant quantum computers could emerge before 2030, while several blockchain projects are developing quantum-resistant upgrade plans.

“The crypto industry shouldn’t need wake-up calls from the White House or anyone else. We should all be acting and seizing on the best cryptography that exists,” said StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson.

StarkWare said the first phase replaces existing Pedersen hashing with quantum-resistant alternatives and introduces quantum-safe signatures, while the second phase provides migration tools for existing smart contracts and the third phase depends on Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) completing its own quantum upgrade roadmap.

The company said Starknet's zero-knowledge STARK proof system provides an architectural advantage for adopting post-quantum cryptography, and as StarkWare is privately held there was no share price reaction to report.

Other blockchain projects, including Circle, Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH), Solana (CRYPTO:SOL), Tezos and Algorand (CRYPTO:ALGO), have also proposed quantum-resistant roadmaps, while the Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) community continues debating how to address quantum security risks.

StarkWare said technical complexity and governance challenges remain, but argued these should not delay preparations for quantum-resistant blockchain infrastructure as advances in quantum computing continue.

At the time of reporting, Ethereum price was $1,583.92.
