StarkWare cuts quantum-safe Bitcoin costs by 79%

  • StarkWare says quantum-safe Bitcoin transaction costs have fallen from about $320 to $67 in GPU compute.
  • The reduction followed a one-week optimisation challenge involving 62 promoted submissions across two computational tracks.
  • The work makes an emergency quantum-safe option cheaper, but does not make Bitcoin quantum-safe.

StarkWare has cut the estimated GPU cost of preparing a quantum-safe Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) transaction by 79%.

The estimate fell from about $320 to $67 after a week of optimisation work involving StarkWare, Yukon Research and Eigen Labs.

The challenge produced 62 promoted submissions across transaction pinning and subset selection, with 40 solvers participating.

Transaction pinning reached more than 820 million verified candidates per second, up from 146.09 million previously.

Subset selection also accelerated more than tenfold, reaching 623,518,629 candidates per second from about 62 million.

The quantum-safe Bitcoin construction uses hashes instead of conventional signatures while operating under existing consensus rules.

However, the transactions remain nonstandard and require direct submission to miners rather than ordinary network relay.

Following the update, BTC was trading down 2.8% at $84,134.47.
