Standard Chartered backs GSR in crypto push

Share

Standard Chartered, through its investment arm SC Ventures, has taken a strategic stake in GSR, marking the firm’s first external shareholder since its founding.

The investment reflects growing institutional interest in crypto infrastructure, particularly in areas such as tokenisation and liquidity provision, as traditional banks expand into digital assets.

“We are excited to welcome SC Ventures as a strategic investor and partner,”

Said Xin Song.

The partnership aims to combine banking infrastructure with crypto market expertise, with a focus on enabling tokenised assets and improving market liquidity for institutional participants.

Standard Chartered said the move aligns with its strategy to build institutional ecosystems that support digital asset adoption, and the share price was unchanged at $XX.

The deal follows broader activity by GSR, including investment in tokenisation platform Libeara, which is also backed by SC Ventures.

The move highlights accelerating convergence between traditional finance and crypto markets, as major banks increase exposure to blockchain-based financial infrastructure.
