The Spanish Red Cross has launched RedChain, a blockchain-based aid platform designed to give donors verifiable transparency without exposing beneficiary identities.

The system replaces paper vouchers with ERC-20 aid credits issued on the Ethereum blockchain, allowing recipients to spend funds via QR codes at participating merchants.

“Donors can see aggregated, verifiable information on how funds are allocated and spent, but what donors will never see are the identities of beneficiaries,”

A Spanish Red Cross spokesperson said.

RedChain was developed with Barcelona-based infrastructure provider BLOOCK and zero-knowledge credential firm Billions Network to digitise the entire aid lifecycle.

All personal data, including names and case records, is kept offchain in Red Cross systems, with the blockchain used only to anchor hashes, timestamps and integrity proofs.

“People seeking assistance shouldn’t have to choose between getting help and protecting their privacy,”

Said Francisco López Romero, chief technology officer at Creu Roja Catalunya.

The Red Cross said the platform responds to growing donor demands for verifiable aid flows while preserving dignity, positioning blockchain as a public notary rather than a repository of sensitive data.

At the time of reporting, Ethereum price was $2,274.19.
