  • Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) cut its target slot time from 400 to 350 milliseconds.
  • The change is designed to reduce network delays and speed up confirmations.
  • Developers plan three more 50-millisecond cuts, targeting 200 milliseconds.

Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) cut its target slot time to 350 milliseconds, its first reduction since the network launched.

The change cuts the target from 400 milliseconds as Solana works towards a 200-millisecond goal.

“We’re in a new era of 350ms. Next stop, 300ms,” Solana Foundation Vice President of Technology Jacob Creech wrote on X.

Average slot times stood at 360 milliseconds when Cointelegraph reported the change, according to Solana’s network data.

The upgrade is intended to reduce network latency and speed up transaction confirmations, while three further 50-millisecond cuts are planned.

The changes form part of SIMD-0525, a proposal approved and merged on 14 May, with activation planned through Anza’s Agave v4.2 validator client.

The remaining stages would reduce slot times to 300, 250 and 200 milliseconds, although the activation schedule remains tentative.

At the time of reporting, Solana price was $95.55.
