Russia warns US citizens to leave Kyiv amid strike threat
Sergey Lavrov reportedly urged the United States to evacuate American citizens from Kyiv during a phone call with Marco Rubio as Russia signalled possible imminent strikes on the Ukrainian capital.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry separately issued a public statement warning of planned attacks targeting “decision-making centres” and military command infrastructure inside Kyiv.
The warning comes amid escalating tensions between Moscow and Western governments as the war in Ukraine enters another phase of intensified military and diplomatic confrontation.
The United States had not publicly confirmed details of the Lavrov-Rubio conversation at the time of publication, while European Union officials reportedly rejected Moscow’s call to withdraw personnel from Kyiv.
The development immediately raised concerns across global markets about renewed geopolitical risk, particularly surrounding energy supply disruptions, sanctions policy and broader investor sentiment.
During Russia’s initial invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Bitcoin and global equities initially fell sharply before crypto markets later recovered as some users turned to digital assets for capital transfers and financial access during the conflict.
Analysts said a major escalation could renew international scrutiny around crypto transactions tied to sanctioned entities, especially after Russia increasingly explored stablecoins and digital assets to navigate financial restrictions imposed by Western governments.
Investors are expected to closely monitor further military developments around Kyiv, additional sanctions responses and potential impacts on energy markets, global risk assets and cryptocurrency regulation.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $76,539.76.
