Keith Gill’s verified X account was apparently hacked on May 11, with attackers using the Roaring Kitty profile to promote and dump a Solana meme coin that briefly surged to a market value of about $12 million.

Two posts appeared on Gill’s account after more than 16 months of inactivity, including a Pump.fun contract address for a token called Red Kitten Crew and a cartoon clip referencing a “red bandit crew,” before both posts were deleted within an hour.

Onchain analyst StarPlatinum said more than 80 wallets extracted roughly $2.86 million during the rally after traders rushed into the token following the posts.

Blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain said the token developer spent 20 Solana tokens worth about $1,950 across 10 wallets to accumulate 39.52% of the total token supply before later selling the holdings for roughly $495,000.

Lookonchain added that the wallets also generated approximately $118,000 in creator fees through the Pump.fun launch platform during the rapid trading surge.

Unverified speculation circulating online linked the incident to Keith Gill’s brother Kevin after a livestream clip surfaced showing someone resembling him celebrating the token launch, although neither Keith Gill nor Kevin Gill has publicly addressed the claims and no confirmed evidence has emerged.

The incident follows several recent high-profile X account compromises tied to Solana meme coins, including hacks targeting Pump.fun and Yat Siu, while GME shares briefly rose as much as 13% during the episode before surrendering those gains.

At the time of reporting, Solana price was $91.14.
