Keith Gill sparked confusion across crypto and meme stock markets after his verified X account posted a Solana meme coin contract address following 16 months of inactivity.

The now-deleted post promoted a newly launched Pump.fun token called Red Kitten Crew alongside a short cartoon clip and later additional text referencing a “red bandit crew”.

The token rapidly graduated from Pump.fun’s bonding curve to Raydium trading and briefly reached a market capitalisation of approximately $5.97 million before retreating toward $4 million.

Separately, an unrelated BNB Chain meme token called RockyCat also surged roughly 25% as traders appeared to confuse the projects because of their shared ticker symbol and cat-themed branding.

Traders and onchain analysts quickly speculated that Gill’s account may have been compromised because the posts sharply differed from his traditional focus on GameStop analysis, options trading and long-form livestream commentary.

The unusual activity drew comparisons to previous social media hacks involving high-profile accounts including those tied to Michael Saylor and football star Kylian Mbappé that were allegedly used to promote speculative meme tokens.

Research cited in the report also claimed that roughly 98.6% of tokens launched through Pump.fun show characteristics associated with scams or wash trading, increasing concerns around the legitimacy of the promoted token.

At the time of reporting, Solana price was $96.38.
