Ripple taps RLUSD for global water initiative
Blockchain payments company Ripple has joined Water.org's "Get Blue" campaign, a global initiative aimed at improving access to safe water for the more than two billion people who currently lack it at home.
The campaign, launched by Water.org, brings together corporate partners including Amazon and Gap to help fund solutions addressing water access challenges in developing regions.
Ripple said it will use its US dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD to transfer funds to Water.org's microfinance partners operating in emerging markets.
The initiative is built around Water.org's WaterCredit model, which provides affordable financing to help individuals and communities gain access to essential water and sanitation services.
Ripple's participation also highlights the growing use of stablecoins in charitable and economic development programmes, where faster and lower-cost transactions can improve the efficiency of moving funds across borders.
In September 2025, Ripple donated $15 million in RLUSD to support underserved entrepreneurs through the Accion Opportunity Fund, and the company has also committed $25 million in cryptocurrency funding to DonorsChoose and Teach For America.
The partnership comes as concerns over global water access continue to grow, with Water.org estimating that more than two billion people worldwide still lack safe water at home while demand for water-intensive technologies such as artificial intelligence continues to increase.
