- The foundation said the project could simplify payments between AI systems and online services.
Ripple has joined the x402 Foundation to help develop an open payment standard for artificial intelligence using XRP (CRYPTO:XRP).
The foundation is building the x402 protocol, which allows applications and AI agents to make payments directly over the internet.
"Open payment standards are essential for the next generation of internet commerce," the x402 Foundation said.
Ripple said its participation will support the use of XRP and blockchain technology for machine-to-machine payments.
The foundation said the protocol could reduce payment friction for AI services, software platforms and digital applications.
The x402 standard is based on the HTTP 402 "Payment Required" status code, which was reserved for internet payments but has seen limited use.
Ripple continues to expand XRP's use in cross-border payments while exploring new applications in artificial intelligence and internet commerce.
At the time of reporting, XRP price was $1.11.
