Pi Network has set an April 27 deadline for all Mainnet node operators to upgrade to Protocol 22 or face automatic disconnection from the network.
The mandatory update requires nodes running version 21.2 to transition to version 0.5.4, ensuring system-wide synchronisation as the network prepares for future upgrades.
The Pi Core Team said nodes that fail to comply “will fall out of consensus and be disconnected automatically,” emphasising the importance of version alignment for stability.
Protocol 22 introduces a dual-interface system, allowing operators to access node functions and balances via both desktop and node screens, improving usability and operational flexibility.
The upgrade is a key precursor to Protocol 23, expected in May, which will introduce full smart contract functionality and expand the network’s capabilities for decentralised applications.
Despite these developments, the Pi price has remained largely unchanged at around $0.1687, with a market capitalisation near $1.73 billion.
The network, which has surpassed 18 million KYC-verified users, is expected to outline further progress at Consensus 2026, where its co-founders will discuss roadmap milestones and ecosystem growth.
At the time of reporting, Pi Network price was $0.1696.
