  • Pakistan has opened its crypto licensing portal for virtual asset firms.
  • Existing firms must apply for approval by 5 September or stop operating.
  • The rules cover exchanges, custody, lending, derivatives, token issuance and mining services.

Pakistan’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority has opened its licensing portal for crypto businesses.

Existing virtual asset firms must submit an application by 5 September or stop operating.

“The licensing window is officially open, creating a clear pathway for businesses to enter Pakistan’s regulated virtual asset market, with defined standards for consumer protection, governance, compliance and market integrity,” said PVARA.

The new rules cover exchanges, custody services, brokers, lending and derivatives.

They also cover asset management, token issuance and mining-related services.

Firms can also enter a regulatory sandbox before applying for a full licence.

Pakistan passed its Virtual Assets Act in March, creating PVARA as the sector’s regulator.
