- The NBA has named Kalshi and Polymarket its preferred prediction market exchanges under a new integrity framework.
- The league has signed a memorandum of understanding with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission to strengthen information-sharing and market oversight.
- New rules restrict permissible NBA-related markets and prohibit league and team personnel from trading contracts tied to NBA events.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has named Kalshi and Polymarket its preferred prediction market exchanges, establishing new rules for NBA-related contracts and signing an agreement with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
The framework combines commercial partnerships with safeguards designed to address suspicious trading and protect the integrity of professional basketball prediction markets.
“I’m pleased the CFTC and NBA signed an MOU which continues the Commission’s commitment to increasing data sharing between the agency and professional sports leagues,” CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig said in a statement.
The agreement creates a channel for the NBA and CFTC to share information and discuss potential integrity risks linked to prediction markets.
The NBA’s framework limits which basketball-related markets exchanges can offer and prohibits league and team personnel from trading contracts tied to NBA events.
The league also expanded its DraftKings partnership and designated Sportradar as a provider of official NBA data, supporting its broader commercial strategy around prediction markets.
The NBA joins Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League in signing an agreement with the CFTC, as disputes over sports-related prediction markets continue to develop.
The agreement strengthens cooperation between the NBA and federal regulators while setting clearer boundaries for prediction markets linked to professional basketball.
