MultiversX said it has become the first blockchain to integrate Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol, enabling AI agents to transact directly onchain without human involvement.
The integration allows AI systems running on platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude to check balances, transfer tokens and execute transactions on MultiversX using a standardised framework.
Google introduced the Universal Commerce Protocol in January as an open standard designed to let AI assistants discover products, negotiate prices and complete purchases across online merchants.
The framework was developed with retailers including Shopify, Walmart and Target, as companies prepare for AI-driven commerce.
MultiversX said the move positions its network as infrastructure for autonomous AI agents, as blockchains compete to support machine-to-machine transactions alongside projects such as Ethereum.
The rollout also includes support for x402, a payments protocol incubated by Coinbase that embeds payments directly into standard web requests without logins or checkout flows.
Together, the integrations aim to enable so-called agentic commerce, where AI systems can programmatically access services, pay for data and move digital assets across decentralised networks.
