  • MoonPay has received an Electronic Money Institution licence from the Dutch central bank.
  • The licence allows MoonPay to issue euro-denominated stablecoins and offer regulated payment services.
  • MoonPay plans to build payment accounts, stablecoin issuance and card products across the European Economic Area.

MoonPay has received an Electronic Money Institution licence from De Nederlandsche Bank, allowing it to issue euro-denominated stablecoins.

The approval has expanded MoonPay Europe’s regulated activities beyond its existing MiCA Crypto-Asset Service Provider authorisation from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets.

MoonPay said the licence gives it “broader options from the Netherlands” to build stablecoin and payment products across Europe.

The licence also allows MoonPay to offer payment accounts and related services to consumers and businesses, while supporting new payment and card products.

The licence can be passported across the European Economic Area, allowing MoonPay to provide the permitted services across the region from the Netherlands.

MoonPay said it plans to expand payment accounts, stablecoin issuance and card products across the region in the coming months.

MoonPay said it is the third Netherlands-based company with both MiCA CASP and EMI licences within one entity, and the first to combine them with open-loop stablecoin issuance capabilities.
