MoonPay brings crypto purchases into ChatGPT

MoonPay launched a new app inside OpenAI’s ChatGPT platform that allows users to generate cryptocurrency purchase links directly through chatbot conversations.

The integration enables users to buy digital assets including Bitcoin, XRP, Solana and USDC without leaving ChatGPT.

MoonPay said users can ask ChatGPT questions about cryptocurrencies before requesting a purchase link for a specific amount of crypto through the chatbot interface.

The company clarified that customers must still complete MoonPay’s standard know-your-customer verification and payment checkout process before transactions are finalised.

According to MoonPay product lead Kevin Arifin, the goal is to make AI chat interfaces a more natural gateway for crypto education and onboarding rather than fully autonomous AI trading.

Arifin described ChatGPT and similar AI assistants as the “new front door of the internet” where users increasingly conduct research, shopping and financial discovery through conversational interfaces.

The launch expands MoonPay’s broader push into AI-powered crypto infrastructure following its acquisition of AI trading startup Dawn Labs and the rollout of products including Dawn CLI and the MoonAgents Card.

MoonPay joins other crypto-related apps already available within ChatGPT’s ecosystem, including integrations connected to Kraken and OKX.

The move also reflects growing competition among crypto firms seeking to position AI platforms as a major future distribution channel for digital asset services and payments.
