MoneyGram has launched a validator on Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) and joined the Solana Developer Platform to build blockchain infrastructure for future payment services.
The validator is not yet connected to MoneyGram's retail remittance business and is instead being used to test blockchain operations and security.
"MoneyGram is a great example of a major trend, but I would not interpret this as meaning that its payment system is already directly integrated with validator operations," said Flowra Chief Executive Officer Harry Hwang.
Hwang said Solana's planned Alpenglow upgrade could make validator operations easier, while Flowra's policy-based system would let institutions choose how transactions are processed.
Hwang also said compliant transaction routes could attract more institutional trading, but warned too much activity on a few approved routes could concentrate liquidity, while no listed company share price reaction applies to the announcement.
MoneyGram said operating a validator first allows it to gain experience before connecting its payment systems to the blockchain.
The move reflects growing interest from banks and payment companies in blockchain infrastructure as they prepare for wider use of stablecoins and digital assets.
At the time of reporting, Solana price was $78.39.
