  • The launch expands MiniPay's effort to bring stablecoin payments to consumers in emerging markets.

MiniPay, the stablecoin wallet owned by Opera, has launched a Visa debit card that enables users to spend stablecoins directly from their wallets through Visa's payment network.

The card is being rolled out across selected markets in Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia and Europe, where stablecoin adoption has been growing for payments and remittances.

The companies said the card uses Gnosis Pay infrastructure, allowing users to pay from their MiniPay wallets while merchants receive settlement in local currency through Visa's network.

MiniPay said it has surpassed 16 million activated wallets across 65 countries since its launch in 2023, with a significant portion of its user base located in emerging markets.

The card can be linked to Apple Pay and Google Pay, while eligible users in some regions will receive cashback rewards denominated in USDt (CRYPTO:USDT), USD Coin (CRYPTO:USDC) and Tether Gold (CRYPTO:XAUT); following the announcement no financial terms were disclosed.

The launch comes as stablecoins gain wider acceptance across Latin America and Africa, where businesses and consumers are increasingly using dollar-backed digital assets for payments, transfers and savings.

According to DefiLlama data, the total value of stablecoins in circulation has grown to approximately US$315 billion from about US$250 billion a year earlier, reflecting broader adoption across both retail and institutional markets.
