Metaplanet Inc (TSE:3350) repurchased 73.98 million ordinary shares for ¥19.31 billion through off-auction trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on 14 October.
The repurchase forms part of a ¥60 billion programme running from 14 October 2026 to 13 October 2027, with a maximum of 200 million shares.
Metaplanet said the programme aims to improve capital efficiency and increase Bitcoin (BTC) holdings per share while considering its financial position and share price.
The completed transaction priced the repurchased shares at ¥261 each, matching Metaplanet’s closing share price on 13 October.
The company set a conversion price of ¥339 for its zero-coupon convertible bonds, a 29.89% premium to the 13 October closing price.
The wider buyback programme allows Metaplanet to purchase shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange over the next 12 months, subject to its stated limits.
By increasing Bitcoin holdings per share, Metaplanet is linking its capital allocation strategy to the amount of Bitcoin backing each share.
Following the announcement, Metaplanet shares were trading up 3.83% at ¥271.
