Metaplanet Inc. purchased 2,823 Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) during the second quarter of 2026 for US$225 million, increasing its treasury holdings to 43,000 BTC with a total cost basis of US$4.09 billion.

The company bought the Bitcoin at an average price of US$78,872 per coin, lifting its holdings from 40,177 BTC at the end of March, while the average purchase price across its entire treasury reached US$95,209 per Bitcoin.

The company reported that its Bitcoin options trading business generated US$10.95 million in operating revenue during the quarter and US$29.2 million during the first half of 2026, while stating that the latest purchases were mainly funded through credit facilities, ordinary bond issuances and options income rather than equity dilution.

Metaplanet said its Bitcoin treasury strategy remains unchanged and maintained its financial guidance for the year ending Dec. 31, 2026, while following the announcement the Metaplanet share price was unchanged at the time of writing.

The company also reported a 6.6% increase in its BTC Yield during the second quarter, a metric it uses to measure Bitcoin holdings relative to effectively diluted shares outstanding, while noting the measure is supplementary and not a substitute for traditional financial indicators.

Metaplanet has continued expanding its Bitcoin treasury throughout 2026 as it develops its digital asset strategy, with recurring revenue from its options business helping to offset acquisition costs and producing an effective net purchase price of approximately US$75,032 per Bitcoin.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $61,334.25.
