MARA faces lawsuit over Texas Bitcoin mining noise
Nine Texas residents have filed a lawsuit against MARA Holdings, alleging its Granbury Bitcoin mining facility generates constant noise and vibrations that harm health and disrupt daily life.
The complaint, filed in the Northern District of Texas, seeks damages exceeding $1 million and claims the operation constitutes a private nuisance that has reduced property values and made nearby homes difficult to live in.
“This lawsuit arises out of the denial of Plaintiffs’ use and enjoyment of their property via interference from the MARA’s management and operation of the Cryptomine,”
The complaint said.
Residents living as close as 0.01 miles from the site allege continuous low-frequency noise from cooling systems, reporting impacts including insomnia, headaches, anxiety, and hearing issues.
MARA Holdings said it has taken steps to reduce noise, including shutting down some air-cooled units and adding sound barriers, but residents claim the measures have been ineffective, and the company share price was unchanged at $XX.
The lawsuit adds to broader scrutiny of crypto mining and data centre operations, which have faced increasing opposition across the US over noise, energy use, and environmental strain.
The dispute also comes as Bitcoin miners pivot towards artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, repurposing infrastructure to tap rising demand for data centre capacity while navigating community resistance.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $80,760.46.
