KuCoin has introduced MemeFi, a trading structure that pairs memecoins directly with tokenised stocks such as NVIDIA and GameStop.
MemeFi uses the tokenised equity as the quote asset, meaning traders buy the memecoin with the stock token and receive the stock token when selling.
The structure allows these pairs to trade around the clock, including periods when traditional US equity markets are closed.
KuCoin describes MemeFi as a market structure rather than a standalone token, with the memecoin's dollar value influenced by both its pool ratio and the underlying tokenised stock price.
KuCoin's September 11 analysis also points to growing activity around tokenised equities, with CoinMarketCap data putting the market at about $2.55 billion in value and more than one million holders in early September.
The model is already appearing across several blockchain venues, with Pump.fun, Raydium LaunchLab, Robinhood Chain and BNB Chain supporting or developing markets that use tokenised stocks as quote assets.
MemeFi introduces additional price risk because traders are exposed to movements in both the memecoin and the tokenised stock, while liquidity, redemption rules and issuer structures can differ between assets.
