Japan's CRYL offers Bitcoin-backed loans up to US$6.2M
- Japanese financial company CRYL has launched a Bitcoin-backed lending service offering loans of between 1 million yen (US$6,200) and 1 billion yen (US$6.2 million) to individuals and businesses seeking to raise fiat currency without selling their Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) holdings.
- Borrowers can access funds at annual interest rates of between 3.5% and 7%, with collateral ratios set at 40% to 60%, and loans structured on a one-year term with a lump-sum repayment of principal and interest at maturity.
- The service can be used for a range of purposes including tax payments, business funding, and property purchases, with all applicants required to undergo a screening process before approval.
CRYL's launch expands Japan's regulated market for cryptocurrency-backed financing, with the company positioning its product as a third option for Bitcoin holders beyond simply holding or selling the asset.
CRYL's service offers a higher lending ceiling and a lower minimum borrowing amount than competing provider Fintertech, a joint venture between Daiwa Securities Group and Credit Saison, although CRYL limits eligible collateral exclusively to Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC).
Fintertech, which launched its own Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) and Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH)-backed lending service in 2020, currently offers loans of up to US$3 million at annual rates of 4% to 8% with a 50% collateral ratio and a minimum borrowing amount of 5 million yen (US$31,000).
Daiwa Securities began referring customers at its branches across Japan to Fintertech's digital asset-backed loans in October 2025, extending the service's distribution reach significantly.
Metaplanet Securities, yen stablecoin issuer JPYC, and tokenisation infrastructure provider Progmat announced a separate study on 10 July 2026 into the potential use of Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) as collateral or credit enhancement for digital corporate bonds and other blockchain-based credit instruments.
The Metaplanet-led initiative remains at the research stage, with the companies confirming that no issuance decision has been made.
The cluster of activity across CRYL, Fintertech, and Metaplanet reflects a broadening effort among Japanese financial institutions to integrate Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) into mainstream lending and credit markets.
