Iran’s government has cut internet access as protests spread following worsening economic conditions and a collapsing rial.

Around seven million Iranians are estimated to use cryptocurrency, with roughly $3.7 billion in crypto flows recorded in early 2025.

Some observers have suggested bitcoin could serve as a store of value during the crisis.

Without internet access, using crypto becomes difficult, but alternative technologies could provide limited solutions.

Starlink satellite internet could restore connectivity, with unconfirmed reports suggesting access may already be available.

Blockstream’s satellite network can broadcast bitcoin transactions globally without relying on local internet connections.

Users have also shared bitcoin transaction data through Bluetooth mesh messaging apps, though final confirmation still requires internet access.

Experimental tools using radio networks and mobile telecom systems aim to enable offline bitcoin transfers.

Most offline crypto solutions still depend on at least one internet-connected device to finalise transactions on-chain.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $90,965.11.
