Hester Peirce, widely known in the crypto industry as “Crypto Mom,” will join Regent University School of Law as an associate professor, signaling the likely end of her tenure at the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Regent University said Peirce would begin teaching in November, roughly 18 months after her SEC term officially expired in June 2025, the maximum extension period commissioners may serve without replacement.

Peirce joined the SEC in 2018 after nomination by Donald Trump and became one of the agency’s most prominent advocates for clearer cryptocurrency regulation and reduced enforcement-driven oversight.

The law school said Peirce would help expand academic programmes focused on securities regulation, federal litigation and digital assets.

Her departure would leave the SEC with only two commissioners, Chair Paul Atkins and Commissioner Mark Uyeda, following the earlier exit of former Democratic commissioner Caroline Crenshaw.
