Ethereum builds quantum-safe roadmap with new hub
The Ethereum Foundation has launched a dedicated hub outlining its roadmap to protect the network from future quantum computing threats, as development efforts accelerate.
The new platform, pq.ethereum.org, consolidates research, code, specifications and FAQs, with more than 10 client teams already running weekly interoperability devnets.
“Very important,”
Said Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, referring to earlier roadmap work addressing post-quantum security and protocol upgrades.
The initiative reflects a long-term effort underway for eight years, aimed at ensuring Ethereum remains secure even if quantum computers eventually break current cryptographic systems.
At the execution layer, Ethereum plans to introduce quantum-resistant signature verification, allowing users to upgrade security without requiring a disruptive network-wide change.
At the consensus layer, existing validator signatures will be replaced with hash-based alternatives, while additional scaling mechanisms will manage increased data sizes.
The transition will extend to the data layer and is expected to take years, positioning Ethereum among the first major blockchains actively preparing for quantum-era security risks.
At the time of reporting, Ethereum price was $2,168.30.
