The frames can express features such as transaction expiry, privacy proofs and signature checks through programmable contract calls.
Ethereum developer Derek Chiang has described the recent work as a “design breakthrough” for the proposal.
EIP-8141 splits transactions into frames that can validate transactions, approve fees or execute user actions.
The approach could reduce the need for repeated changes to Ethereum's transaction structure as new features are added.
Developers are also exploring EIP-8130 alongside EIP-8141 to make these transactions easier for wallets and other infrastructure to inspect.
EIP-8141 is scheduled for Hegotá but remains a draft, with testing and implementation still required before Ethereum sets activation dates.
