Ethereum exit queue surges after DeFi hack wave

Share

Ethereum’s validator exit queue surged to 433,158 ETH, rising around 72,000% in two weeks after a wave of DeFi exploits triggered withdrawals.

The spike follows April losses of $625 million across 30 incidents, including a $292 million KelpDAO bridge hack that drained restaked ether and shook lending markets.

“Capital leaving all forms of ‘defi’ because the risk is heavily skewed towards a zero return OF capital,”

Said on-chain analyst Checkmatey.

The attack, linked to the Lazarus Group, led to significant outflows, with deposits on Aave dropping from $45.8 billion to $28.6 billion.

Despite the surge in exits, staking demand remains strong, with 3.6 million ETH still in the entry queue and total staked ether at 38.6 million.

Annual staking yields remain near 2.92%, supported by roughly 900,000 active validators across the network.

The divergence between rising exits and strong entry demand suggests capital rotation rather than a full retreat from Ethereum staking.

Market participants say normalisation could follow if exploit activity declines, though security concerns continue to weigh on DeFi confidence.

At the time of reporting, Ethereum price was $2,370.99.
