Estonia suspends Zondacrypto operator licence

Share

Financial Intelligence Unit of Estonia partially suspended the operating licence of BB Trade Estonia OÜ, the company operating under the Zondacrypto brand.

The regulator said the company is no longer allowed to accept deposits or onboard new customers, though existing users can still withdraw their funds from the platform.

“If it fails to do so, the law obliges the FIU to revoke the operating licence,”

The regulator said, giving BB Trade Estonia OÜ 30 days to address compliance deficiencies.

The FIU did not specify which compliance violations led to the suspension, though the action follows broader scrutiny surrounding Zondacrypto after withdrawal issues and earlier comments from company leadership that an exchange cold wallet containing roughly 4,500 bitcoin had become inaccessible.

Estonia’s Financial Supervision and Resolution Authority previously warned in May that Zondacrypto-linked TeamPL tokens breached the European Union’s MiCA framework because they were listed without a required white paper.

The exchange has also become part of a wider regulatory debate in Poland after officials raised concerns over potential links to Russian capital and political influence, while Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously referenced around 30,000 potential victims tied to crypto-related losses.

Market data from CoinGecko showed little to no recent trading activity on the exchange at the time of publication, while attempts to contact Zondacrypto reportedly failed after company staff departures linked to earlier developments.

Founded in Poland in 2014 as BitBay, Zondacrypto has operated through its Estonian registration since 2019, while Estonia’s banking sector continues advancing under the EU’s MiCA framework after LHV Pank received a MiCA licence this week.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $77,092.74.
