ENS DAO proposes migration to ENSv2 on Ethereum
- ENS DAO has proposed activating ENSv2 on Ethereum mainnet, freezing new registrations under the existing system.
- The upgrade introduces a hierarchical registry, preserves renewals for unmigrated names and transfers administrative control to the DAO.
- Existing
.ethowners can retain their names without migrating immediately, with no migration deadline specified.
The ENS DAO proposal would freeze new .eth registrations under the existing system while enabling the upgraded registrar on Ethereum mainnet.
ENSv2 replaces the original flat registry with a hierarchy, allowing individual names to manage subnames through separate registries and resolvers.
The proposal keeps existing .eth names operational and renewable, with no deadline for owners to migrate.
Registrations and renewals under ENSv2 will use DAO-approved pricing payable in USDC or DAI, according to the proposal.
During activation, new registrations will pause until ENS Labs completes a final synchronisation and enables the upgraded registrar.
The proposal transfers administrative control over ENSv2 contracts to the DAO, while ENS Labs relinquishes its remaining privileged roles.
Existing integrations must support the Universal Resolver to remain compatible with ENSv2, while the proposal states that most are already ready.
Following the update, ENS was trading up 2.72% at $6.038.
